Role Description The SMBC Loan Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Baku, responsible for managing the end-to-end loan process for retail and/or corporate clients. This includes identifying client needs, explaining loan products, collecting and analyzing financial information, and preparing loan applications in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The role involves assessing creditworthiness, supporting underwriting and approval workflows, and ensuring accurate documentation and timely disbursement of loans. The SMBC Loan Officer provides proactive customer service, responds to client inquiries, and maintains ongoing relationships to support portfolio quality and growth. Daily activities also include collaborating with branch and risk teams, monitoring loan performance, and contributing to the bank’s sales and service targets.
Qualifications

  • Experience in loan officer or similar banking roles, with a solid understanding of loan origination processes and credit evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of finance and basic underwriting principles, including financial statement review and risk assessment.
  • Proven customer service skills, with the ability to build trust, explain complex products clearly, and handle sensitive financial information with professionalism.
  • Familiarity with loan origination systems, banking software, and standard office applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with deadlines and targets.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in relevant local languages; English or additional languages are an advantage.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and internal policies.
