About us:

UPLIFT Counseling is a private practice in Baku, Azerbaijan. We serve adolescents and adults of all ages navigating neurodiversity, trauma, relational concerns, grief, and a wide range of mental health disorders. Our care is trauma-informed and research-based. We model that approach for our interns to help them build real cultural competency.

Supporting graduate students through their studies is something we value and find deeply fulfilling.

Why intern with us

You won't do this alone. We hire interns in cohorts of 3-6 on purpose. Students thrive when peers are going through the process alongside them, and a cohort gives you a built-in support system from day one.

Structured clinical support. We offer supervision and consultation frameworks based on international humanitarian organizations’ practice and rooted in evidence-based approaches.

A multi-year professional development path. We aim to help you build the clinical skills, caseload diversity, and professional identity you'll need well beyond graduation. We envision interns staying on with us as therapists and staff.

What you'll learn

• Neurobiology of trauma and specifics of developmental trauma
• Soft skills for therapists
• Initial session breakdown
• Tools for intervention
• Supervision structure (and opportunity to bring up cases)
• Therapist self-care and burnout prevention, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue
• In-depth exploration of specific topics, such as suicide, neurodiversity (Autism & ADHD), and other per request
• Ethics in Clinical Psychology based on US curriculum
• Practicum sessions with real clients
• Other professional practice activities

Who we're looking for

• 2nd year graduate (master’s) students in a Clinical Psychology program, recent graduates also accepted
• Able to commit 6-10 hours per week, including some afternoon and/or evening availability (4:00-8:00 pm)
• Interest in neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care
• Curious, collaborative, and open to feedback

Logistics

• Primarily in person at our Baku office; remote participation as needed
• Office space and therapy resources provided
• Interns carry their own ITIN when starting paid sessions; proof required before starting
• Reliable transportation required

Compensation

• Training sessions are free of charge
• For students who will go on to have practicum sessions, pro rata reduced fee charged from clients
