Job Summary
The Waterflood SME is a senior, hands-on specialist within the Reservoir Development team responsible for building the organization's waterflood capability from the ground up. With pressure support being central to the field development strategy, the role is responsible for designing the waterflood, establishing the surveillance processes required to measure performance, and transferring the capability to the local team as it matures.
This is an individual contributor position reporting to the VP Reservoir Development. The role works closely with the Reservoir Engineering Director on model-based flood design, Production Engineering on well and pattern performance, and Operations on execution at the wellhead.
Key Responsibilities

• Assess the current state of injection and pressure support, pattern by pattern, using historical performance data.
• Design the waterflood, including pattern selection, target injection rates, water specification, and the facilities interface.
• Plan and supervise injectivity testing and measure injection conformance through profiles, tracers, and interference analysis.
• Establish injection operating limits for each well, ensuring operation in zone and below fracture pressure.
• Build the injection surveillance routine, including: voidage replacement tracking, pattern balancing, monthly target-rate reviews for operations
• Act as the technical interface with service providers for waterflood studies and injection services.
• Integrate flood performance into production forecasts to ensure consistency between the injection plan and production targets.
• Transfer capability to the local team, enabling local engineers to run surveillance activities and reviews independently.
  

Key Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Petroleum Engineering or Reservoir Engineering, with waterflooding as a core area of expertise.
• Proven experience managing water injection at field scale, including injection rates, operating limits, conformance, and target-rate review processes.
• Strong experience in surveillance design and execution, including; Injectivity testing, Tracer programs, Interference analysis, and Pattern balancing
• Experience in mature clastic fields (Caspian or broader FSU experience is preferred).
• Ability to design and make technical decisions using sparse legacy data while clearly communicating uncertainty.
  

Reporting Line

• Reports to the VP Reservoir Development.
• Works closely with the Reservoir Engineering Director on model-based flood design.
• Collaborates with Production Engineering on well and pattern performance.
• Works with Operations on execution at the wellhead.
  

Success Measures:

• A waterflood design implemented by the organization, with injection operating limits established for each well.
• Voidage replacement maintained on target by pattern, with conformance measured rather than assumed.
• A monthly injection review process established and operating routinely.
• Local engineers independently managing surveillance activities.
